Diocese of Eldoret Anglican Bishop Christopher Ruto has challenged young people in Uasin Gishu to be peace ambassadors and take part in peace campaigns.
Addressing youths at Eldoret town on Monday, Bishop Ruto challenged youths to take the front row in championing peace.
The bishop said “The young people are the light of the world and should use their time to preach unity among their respective communities.”
Ruto said that peace will be realised across the country if young people take up the challenge of being ambassadors.
The bishop also said that areas experiencing communal clashes will have peace if youths in the areas shun violence and crime.
The Anglican bishop said the church will help mentor youths to be peace ambassadors. He said that the country will only realise its full development potential if there is peace.
The Bishop urged the government to address the issue of unemployment which he said was the cause of many problems facing the country.
Various leaders including clergymen have been calling on Uasin Gishu youths to shun violence and embrace peace following a wave of riots that rocked several universities in Eldoret three weeks ago.
There have been allegations that some politicians could be sponsoring youths and university students to cause violence in Eldoret town.
