A bodaboda operator on Thursday in Maseno received a beating from Maseno University students after allegedly injuring a student.
The operator is said to have been speeding when he lost control and hit a female student along Siriba Road.
Students who were near the scene charged at the bodaboda operator and beat him up as he pleaded for mercy. The students also threatened to burn his bike but the police intervened and saved him.
The students said they were angered by bodaboda operators whom they accused of recklessness saying they posed danger to students.
Area police boss, Erick Langat confirmed the incident and cautioned the operators against dangerous riding saying legal action would be taken against those who break traffic rules including inappropriate use or lack of protective gear.
“Take caution when on the road. Safety first is paramount for both your customers and yourself. Anyone found breaking any traffic rules will be dealt with accordingly," Said Langat.
The student suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby health centre while the operator was taken to Maseno Police Station.
