The county government of Nyamira has been challenged to build new toilet facilities at the county’s Level Four Hospital, with the existing ones rendered dangerous for public use.
Speaking during a funeral ceremony in his Bogichora ward on Tuesday, Buttah Omanga accused the Ministry of Health of delaying to rectify the situation, two months after the commencement of the 2015/16 financial year.
He said the facilities were dangerous to the health of the users, besides exposing them to accidents.
“The toilets at the Nyamira Level Four Hospital are wanting. They are in a deplorable state and can cause another huge lose in terms of health and natural calamities to our people. I am worried that the county government hasn’t acted even after the assembly allocation of Sh1 billion to the health sector,” he said.
The former leader of majority in the county assembly threatened to bring an emergency motion to discuss the conduct of the health department if the matter remained unsolved.
“The hospital is used by many of our residents and it won’t be fair that an institution that should observe sanitation violates the same. Let those in charge be ready to face our wrath in the assembly,” he added.
County Health Officer Dr Douglas Bosire admitted of the bad state of the facilities, but insisted that proper tendering had to be done for commencement of construction.
“I don’t want to deny that there isn’t a problem. We had advertised the tender of construction modern toilets but we are yet to award the tenders. The situation will be surely dealt with,” he said.
