Supporters of the former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati and the incumbent Timothy Bosire clashed at a funeral in Riosiago village temporarily disrupting it.

The burial of Eric Ombati, a former Kitutu Masaba CDF committee member was disrupted on Tuesday morning when the two groups of villagers clashed while anticipating the two leaders to attend the burial.

A fight broke out between the group chanting anti-Nyambati slogans and another group allegedly in support of Nyambati when the latter tried to prevent the rival group from accessing the main podium.

“It’s really a sad moment that when we are celebrating someone's life, politicians hijack the whole exercise. As a family we demand an action to be taken to those who caused chaos in a very peaceful place,” said Alfonse Ondieki on behalf of the bereaved family.

The group purporting to be in support of Bosire accused the supposed Nyambati's supporters of ‘personalising’ the funeral and preventing them from attending it.

“It not fair for some people to block the entrance as if they own Masaba. We will not rest till they respect the current leadership,” said James Otenyo.

The two politicians did not attend the burial ceremony.

Calmness was restored when police from Manga police station arrived as three people were arrested and taken to custody.

“The police have arrested three individuals who will be arraigned in court to answer to charges of causing disturbance,” said Sergeant John Omambia.
