Uasin Gishu County residents have been urged to ensure that they run licensed businesses.
Speaking from his office on Tuesday, county police chief inspector Anthony Alwanyi said it is illegal for a business to operate without a permit.
“We are currently carrying out an illegal business crackdown. Individuals who have not complied with the law of having business permits will be arrested,” said Alwanyi.
Alwanyi said the fee on the permits depends on the location and size of business premises.
“We will infuse some equity into the process given that there are different locations for businesses. Front street and backstreet premises are not the same in terms of access to customers,” said Alwanyi.
He said those who fail to comply will be arrested and charged for evading paying levies and they can even lose their business.
“If we arrest someone who does not have a permit, they will be charged before the court and will have to pay a fine of around Sh4,000," said Alwanyi.
He added that those who will be arrested for not having business permits will be charged with three crimes.
“The first charge is not having the permit itself, the second one is your place of work is not clean because the cleanliness fee charged is always charged on the permit and the third crime will be not displaying the permit in your business," said Alwanyi.
He further advised businesses to display their permits to avoid misunderstandings that may arise during the illegal businesses' crackdown.
Alwanyi said they will also continue to arrest motorists who do not comply with safety authority rules.
The inspector, however, said that all motorists should have sticker’s failure to which they will be arrested and charged in accordance to the law.
