Armed criminals executing robbery with violence have been warned of a possible mob justice if they fail to heed to the calls from Chepilat residents and surrender to government authorities.

The meeting which was called by the Bomet-Nyamira town border saw 2 former gang leaders pleading for mercy and promising to submit a number of stolen items which mainly consisted of electronics.

Speaking during the Monday morning meeting, residents led by the Chairman of Small Scale Traders Mr. Samuel Bang’i, he urged the government to carry a crackdown and arrest a group of gangsters who have allegedly been executing robbery with violence against them.

“We are tired with these incidents targeting the propert we have toiled hard for. It is really painful when you work hard to meet your daily needs then someone comes at night and orders you to surrender it all. The government must intervene and help us track these people,” he lamented.

They threatened to execute those found committing the crime.

“I think the government has been pretty clear on this, that security starts with us. The group of youths who have volunteered to protect us must be respected. We may however not wait that much longer for the government to work with us. Mob justice will be carried out because we are tired of these robberies,” he added.

Mekenene MCA Alfayo Ngeresa had previously urged the residents to select a youthful committee that will be monitoring activities in the town and promised to pay for services.
