A crackdown on faulty vehicles in Uasin Gishu County will be conducted soon, CeC for Roads and Infrastructure Gideon Birir has said.

In an interview with the press at his office on Thursday, Birir said that all Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) that do not meet the required specifications will be impounded once the crackdown starts.

The CeC said that most accidents occurring in the county are caused by these vehicles.

“We are telling PSV Saccos to get such vehicles out of the roads before we come for them,” he said.

The Uasin Gishu Roads executive gave the Saccos two weeks to ensure all their vehicles meet required standards warning of dire consequences for Saccos that do not comply.

Birir added poorly maintained vehicles that emit high levels of fumes which pose health hazards to people should not be on the roads.

He said that he would be meeting to discuss with PSV Saccos on the issue before the crackdown starts.

The Cec also warned against vandalism of road signs and street lights saying that those caught vandalizing risk being jailed.

Birir noted that some of the road signs and street lights within Eldoret town have been vandalized.

He asked members of the public to report vandals to the police
