Eldoret Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Bishop Christopher Ruto has appealed to political leaders in the government and the opposition to exercise tolerance.
Speaking to journalists at St Andrews Church in Eldoret on Thursday, the bishop said the rising political temperatures and intolerance will not be good for development.
Bishop Ruto said politicians must learn to tolerate each other’s views and opinions.
He said that the ongoing exchange of bitter words and accusations between the government and the opposition over the alleged sugar deal between Kenya and Uganda shows that politicians are intolerant.
Ruto said that issues facing the country can be easily solved if politicians across the political divide learn to embrace each other’s views.
He said the country will lag behind in development because political leaders are focused on selfish politics.
“Politicians both in the government and the opposition must learn how to work together and share ideas without causing wrangles and conflict,” he said.
Bishop Ruto said that Kenyans are in need of services which he asked the elected leaders to provide.
The bishop also asked political leaders to take part in campaigns that that will foster unity.
He said that the country needs peace and unity as it moves forward adding that the church will continue to speak against the vices perpetuated by some politicians and individuals in the society.
