A religious leader from Kiambu on Tuesday criticised Deputy President William Ruto's suggestion that pastors be vetted before being allowed to preach.

In an exclusive interview with Hivisasa.com, Bishop Peter Gachara of Power of Faith Church in Kiambu said leading faithful was a calling from God that no man should interfere with.

He criticised the DPs proposal to vet pastors saying doing so will be like "trying to doubt who God has placed to lead faithful."

He said false prophets will always exist since the Holy Bible says so.

"We have been called by God and if others are in this to satisfy themselves then I do not think we should fight them, the hand of God will do so," Gachara said. "The deputy president was wrong to suggest such a thing and we are not in agreement with such."

"Religion is not politics where you go vetting people chosen by God."

He warned politicians against talking ill of religious leaders "since it amounts to being disobedient to God."

He spoke two weeks after Deputy President William while in Embu proposed that the government starts vetting pastors before allowing them to preach.
