Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan has put on notice bars and restaurant owners selling second generation liquor that they will be prosecuted and their licences revoked.
Speaking in his office on Monday, Hassan said the county is sobering up following the launch on the crackdown on illicit brews.
He said it is now difficult to find bars opened during the day noting that majority of the owners were adhering to the Alcoholics Drinks Control Act.
"Since the crackdown on dangerous illicit alcoholic drinks, I have personally closed down 80 per cent of all bars and restaurants in Uasin Gishu County that were not licensed or were selling second generation alcohol. I urge wananchi to help us in this war by reporting any restaurants and bars that still sell such drinks. I promise that stern action will be taken against them," the county commissioner said.
He added that in the past, most pubs and restaurants were conducting their business for 24 hours against the Mututho laws.
"I issue a stern warning to bar owners who still sell second generation alcohol to stop the business because soon we will be coming for you for endangering the lives of Kenyans. The crackdown is still on," he added.
