Two men were arrested on Saturday at Kiambu District Hospital after being caught red-handed by police in plain clothes trying to con a patient’s visitor.
Confirming the incident in his office, Kiambu OCPD Stephen Ng’etich said that the two were arrested after police in plain clothes visited the area.
He added that the two were identified as residents of Mathare, Nairobi and had been operating in the hospital for the past three months.
Ng’etich explained that the two were trying to con a woman when police investigating overheard their conversation. The two had convinced a woman that they knew of an organisation where they clear bills for patients but there was a registration fee required to be part of the organisation.
The OCPD revealed that investigations had been done and the two will face the law. The police boss explained that the conmen have been targeting the hospital to get desperate and discouraged people.
He added that their tactic is basically coming during visiting hours and. They pretend to be social to the visitors to lure them into their activity. Ng’etich mentioned that the criminals are normally more than one and in this operation they pretend not to be together.
“I want to tell all those visiting the hospital to be very careful with such characters. They should also ensure they report of any suspected people idling within the hospital compound or outside,” stated Ng'etich.
