Leaders of the opposition, Cord are in Naivasha for a retreat to deliberate on a number of issues within the party hierarchy.
Addressing journalists on Monday at a Naivasha hotel, one of the principals who is also Bungoma County Senator Moses Wetangula noted that there was no division among the party leadership saying that the retreat was meant to discuss on how to approach different issues.
“We are here to have an over view of issues including the Okoa Kenya initiative and the two-thirds gender rule among others,” he said.
Wetangula also downplayed reports of sabotage among party members saying that like any other party, there were rules that everybody wishing to be part of their operations had to adhere to.
“All parties have the right to convene meetings in any part of the republic because issues must be discussed. Brainstorming is needed and there is also the need to lay out strategies aimed at making the party stronger,” he noted.
The forum is also tasked with discussing pending bills in Parliament being pushed by their opposition members.
“We are the opposition and are mandated with watching over the government. Our bills have to be well discussed before being tabled in the House. Such forums are used to do that,” the Bungoma senator explained.
The three-day retreat will host all leaders affiliated to Cord with all the three principals expected to attend.
ODM,an affiliate of Cord has been hit by a wave of failed primary elections with the most recent one being in Migori where three people died during the fracas.
