A bodaboda passenger was on Tuesday evening injured allegedly by a Kisii County askari stationed opposite Kisii Mwalimu Sacco building, a few meters from the governor’s office.

According to Martin Shikuku, who witnessed the incident, the officer was trying to restrain the bodaboda operator when his rungu missed him and landed heavily on his female passenger. She sustained bruises on her back.

“The county askari was restraining the bodaboda operator when his rod landed on the female passenger,” said Shikuku.

The incident, reportedly nearly brought that section of Kisii Town to a standstill as irate onlookers demanded to know why the county askari had injured the passenger. 

They crowd is said to have even threatened to teach a lesson to some county askaris, who they say go against ethics.

“We even wonder if county askaris are trained before being assigned duties. We cannot accept such heinous acts to go on unpunished,” said Shikuku.

The incident got the attention of the police officers on patrol who rescued the askari and headed to governor’s office.
