Kisii county governor James Ongwae has said his government will financially support families from Mochorwa village in Bomachoge Chache sub county who lost their relatives after lighting struck them Monday evening.
The three who lost their lives were identified as Machuka Maenya, Bosibori Obwoge and Josephine Akunga.
They were among mourners who had escorted the body of the late Nyarumi Onami from a morgue in Kisii town to his home in Mochorwa village.
According to the report by the governor upon arrival shortly after 5.30pm, it started raining, forcing mourners to seek shelter in houses within the compound.
The deceased were struck by lightning and were pronounced dead upon arrival at Kenyenya sub county hospital.
One other victim is undergoing treatment at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The governor said: "the county has mapped out areas that are at risk of being affected by landslides during the predicted heavy rains and we have embarked on a media campaigns to sensitise people on mitigation measures and precautions to be taken in order to avoid disasters".
