The Nakuru County public health department will set up mobile toilets in areas where truck drivers park their vehicles for the night to prevent cases of people easing themselves on the road.

The county’s Public Health Officer Samuel Kingori said that they were targeting Mai Mahiu, Longonot, Pipeline and Salgaa for the initiative.

“We have noted that there are no designated areas where people ease themselves. This creates a problem because when nature calls, they ease themselves in the bushes hence creating a health problem,” said Kingori.

He was speaking to journalists in his office on Monday where he raised concern over sanitation on the roads.

On his part, the county’s Health Officer Benedict Ondieki, admitted that dealing with children's diapers had become a major challenge as residents were scattering them all over.

“We have huge masses of diapers everywhere. It’s a huge problem in the town. However, we are looking into a proposal of how to make it an income-generating venture,” he added.

Nominated Member of County Assembly Esther Magere proposed to have the diapers turned into organic fertiliser for farmers.

“We are seeking to introduce a Bill that will see people use the waste from the diapers into a more economic viable business,” she added.
