Deputy President William Ruto has asked the Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) to be conducting periodical inspection on all manufacturers of alcoholic beverages before issuing licenses.
The move is aimed at curbing the manufacture and sale of illegal alcoholic drinks.
Addressing leaders, parents and students at Kagwe Primary School in Lari constituency when he presided over the opening of new class rooms on Friday, Deputy President William Ruto said the government will not relent in the fight against illicit brews and illegal alcohol.
The DP said regular inspection and crackdowns will help fight the menace which he said has hampered development in some parts of the country.
Ruto said the step taken by the government to fight against brews will continue until all illegal brews are destroyed.
The DP said illicit brews have shuttered many lives and left a trail of destruction in the society.
“The step taken by the government to fight illicit brews and illegal alcohol will continue until when we are convinced that all the brews have been destroyed,” said the DP.
Ruto asked government agencies mandated to regulate and monitor the liquor sector to do their job well.
He said the country can not afford to lose any more lives to illegal drinks.
On the same note, the DP cautioned against destruction of property in the crackdown against brews.
He said destroying property was not part of the directive on the fight against brews.
Ruto asked local administrators to make sure that the crackdowns are conducted in a peaceful manner.
He said the government has put in place measures to help addicts and those suffering from withdrawal.
