The National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) on Wednesday conducted an impromptu visit to Ngenia Boys High School in Limuru, Kiambu County to ascertain its disaster preparedness.

Director Pius Mwachi said his office will visit boarding schools in the country to ensure that the managements adhere to the safety standards and regulations.

"We will be assessing various facilities in schools to ensure that they are within the stipulated safety standards before releasing a report”, said Mwachi.

The inspection comes barely three days after three boys of Stephjoy Boys Boarding School in Limuru died after fire razed their dormitories.

The disaster management team inspected dormitories, bedding, fire extinguishers, doors, windows and other things that might compromise safety in case of a disaster.

"As stakeholders in matters of disasters, we will continue with this exercise and give our recommendations based on our findings", added the director.
