Uasin Gishu county governor Jackson Mandago on Thursday officially opened the construction of Sosiani Bridge that will link Eldoret town to Langas.
This bridge is part of the project by the county government of Uasin Gishu to decongest traffic in Eldoret town by providing an alternate route for vehicles operating in the Eldoret-Kapsabet road which experiences traffic snarl ups in early mornings and afternoons.
The bridge will be part of the route from Eldoret town to Langas estate via Panvilla, Rivatex and pioneer estates.
The governor advised owners of buildings constructed on road reserves to demolish them and pave way for road construction.
“These owners of these buildings know they are on that land unlawfully. Going to court will only waste your time and money. At the end of it all, you will still have to demolish your building,” he advised.
Resident Engineer Edwin Limo said that the construction of the bridge is a six-month contract between the county government and local contractors.
Limo added that the bridge would cost the taxpayer Sh20 million and is expected to be complete by late August.
“We are using precast technology, the latest technology in the bridge construction. The contractor is a local contractor and so are the supervisors,” limo said.
After completion of the Sosiani Bridge, the county government is set to start the construction of the Eldoret Langas road.
Matatus and other vehicles headed to Langas estate, Kipkaren, Pioneer and pan villa will use this route.
