There was drama in a Nakuru court on Wednesday  morning after a bar maid accused of assaulting a customer at her business premises cried out loud pleading with the prosecution to rule the case in her favor.

Lydia Chepng`eno almost led things at the court to a standstill when she started crying and shouting at the top of her voice in an attempt to see Lady Justice Doreen Mulekyo have mercy on her during her ruling.

“Please forgive me Madam,” she begged, adding that “I am a single parent and have children that totally depend on me as their only bread winner.”

According to the prosecution, Chepng`eno is accused of hitting Mr Benjamin Mukhwana with a bottle of beer after they quarreled at Nessuit Bar.

Although she pleaded guilty as accused, Chepng`eno argued that “I was provoked into acting that way in self-defense.”

“He started touching me in a suggestive manner which annoyed me,” she explained.

In her ruling, Justice Doreen set Chepng`eno free arguing that “It was impossible for a person in her normal senses to attack another one as stated without being provoked.”

She further advised men to respect bar maids and any other person working in a bar or club environment saying that it was good to respect another person’s job.
