Members of the public in Kayole, Naivasha sub county have been urged to embrace the Nyumba Kumi Intiative to improve security.

Naivasha East location chief Jared Maina said apart from discussing security issues, the public can use the forum to discuss development matters aimed at uplifting their living standards.

''If you embrace Nyumba Kumi initiative you will create secure working and living environment,'' Mr Maina told a public Baraza yesterday (Wednesday) in Kayole during a security meeting.

Mr Maina said security is a collective responsibility, adding that the government does not have enough police officers to post to each homestead.

He urged Nyumba Kumi groups to hold security meetings on a weekly basis and give information to the authorities about any suspicious person or activity in their areas of jurisdiction. 

During the meeting, speaker after the speaker hailed the initiative which they said had changed the the face of Kayole people. 

The chief took the advantage of the meeting to explain to the public the functions of the national government and county governments.

This is after it came to his attention that most members of the public do not have a clear picture of roles of the two distinctive governments.
