The Central Organisation of Trade Unions Uasin Gishu county chairman Peter Odima has told employers to pay their staff for the services rendered.

Speaking in his office on Thursday, Odima said he has received many complaints of employees not being paid while some have had their salaries delayed for as long as five months despite having worked diligently.

"In September alone, I received 50 complaints from employees lamenting that they have not been paid their dues for between two to five months. For those who had been paid, their bosses do it in bits such as giving them Sh1,000 and yet the salary is Sh10,000 per month. Really, what will Sh1,000 do for such an individual, how do they expect them to survive? He posed.

He told such employers that their days are numbered, adding that they should stop infringing on workers’ rights such as offering them poor pay or delay their salaries.

He urged workers to ensure that they join unions of their respective jobs they undertake since this will ensure that in case their rights are infringed on such as poor pay and working conditions and also delayed payments, they will get assistance and ensure their rights are upheld.

"Employers should ensure that they pay their workers on time and I ask workers to report any employer who will infringe on their rights. I promise that stern action will be taken against them,” he added.
