A National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) commissioner has cautioned that for peace to prevail, productive engagement of the youth is crucial.
According to Linda Ochieng’, both the NCIC and National Council of Elders should involve youths in preaching and maintaining peace.
“In peacemaking, we should involve youths so that they can learn how to maintain peace by coming together with elders and NCIC,” said the commissioner.
She added that most of the time it is the youth who protest and cause chaos and challenged the elders to educate youths on the need to maintain peace.
“Most of youths involve themselves in chaos without knowing their repercussions, hence the need to educate them on the importance of ensuring that peace prevails and avoiding to be misused by politicians, ”added Mrs Ochieng’.
She was speaking on Thursday at Kisii University during the National Council of Elders conference that was attended by elders from 47 counties.
