Farmers in Kisii County have appealed to the county government to revive the dairy sector that has been suffering for a while now for lack of market.

According to Christopher Monyenye a farmer in Jogoo estate in Kisii, they produce a lot of milk but lack markets because the residents cannot consume all the milk.

He said they have send several requests to the county government to take action but their pleas have not borne fruits.

A member of Lower Gusii Co-operative Charles Omanwa said for the last few months they have been selling their milk to their cooperative at a lower price compared to the initial price.

Omanwa said other county governments have been supporting local farmers get new markets for their products a move which said Kisii government should adopt so as to boost their incomes.

“We have very hardworking farmers and if the county government can help farmers market their produce, it will get the best income all the time and farmers will live better lives too,” said Omanwa.
