Farmers across the country have been urged to embrace value addition to their products in order to reap maximum benefits from their agricultural produce.
While addressing farmers at Nyamasaria in Kisumu county in a ceremony to mark the World Food Day on Friday, the Kisumu county minister for agriculture Henry Philip noted that value addition helps in producing more products and as a result increases their income.
“Soya beans for instance can be grinded to produce soya milk the same way the scales of fish from our fish ponds can be used to create leather products,” said Philip.
He advised farmers to visit the relevant offices where they can get information on how to engage in modern farming and also on how they can market their produce.
“Farmers need to shift from the local agricultural methods of farming and embrace the modern technologies that increase their overall produce,” he said.
He also told the farmers to seek valuable information about farming from other research bodies that are available.
“There are several agricultural research bodies where farmers can get valuable information and guidance on how to conduct their agricultural activities in order to maximise their produce. Farmers need to visit some of their offices,” he added
He also advised the farmers to engage actively in agribusiness in order to help boost their income.
