Property of unknown value was destroyed after fire burnt down a dormitory at Moi-Gesusu High School in Nyaribari Masaba, Kisii County on Monday night.
The fire that is said to have started out of an electric fault destroyed property belonging to 131 form four students who were sleeping during the time of the incedent.
The school’s Principal Naftal Ochora said that it was the efforts of the students together with the area residents that helped in putting out the fire, noting that there was no casualty.
“We have been so lucky no one was injured in the fire outbreak and I want to thank the community and more so the people around for making a tireless effort together with our students to ensure that the fire is put out not to cause any further damage in the school,” said Ochora.
Officers from the Kisii County Disaster Management Unit led by Patrick Lumumba and David Kebiro visited the school and asked that investigations be done immediately to get to the root cause of the fire.
“We have looked around and seen the damage that has been caused and as the county government we want to ask that investigations be conducted to get to know the root cause of this fire,” said Lumumba.
