Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo has urged local chiefs in the constituency to intensify the war against illicit brews in their respective areas.
Speaking when she met chiefs at Biashara Location chiefs’ camp in Ruiru on Monday, Gathogo asked the local administrators not to relent in the fight against illicit brews and drug abuse.
The MP said that the fights against illicit brews and second generation alcoholic’s drinks should not be stopped.
Gathogo said that though cases of illicit brewing and alcohol abuse have drastically gone down, there was need for the community to be sensitised on effects of alcohol abuse.
“Local chiefs should not stop but continue with the crackdown on sellers and makers of illicit brews,” said the Ruiru legislator.
The MP noted alcohol abuse was still rampant among the youths in some parts of the constituency. She called for collective collaboration between law enforcers and the public in fighting alcoholism.
Gathogo at the same time called on chiefs to sensitise members of the public on Nyumba Kumi in order to guarantee security across the constituency.
