Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo has expressed her support for the implementation of the two-thirds gender rule enshrined in the constitution.
The lawmaker said the provision was aimed at ensuring every gender is involved in the development of the nation and it should be honoured.
Gathogo reiterated that for the country to develop, women must be involved in its leadership.
"Women are part of society and they must be involved in all aspects including allowing them to hold leadership positions as most of the time they fell inferior and are not given priority as the men," she noted.
Gathogo, however, said the implementation of the gender rule must be done in a progressive way.
Consequently, she has urged the national government to fast-track the process of coming up with a legislation that will enable the implementation of the two-thirds gender rule.
"We need to follow the laid down procedure towards attaining the gender rule and as the constitution says, this needs to be done progressively but within the set timelines," the MP told her constituents on Thursday.
