Residents of Giasaiga Sub-Location in Sameta Sub-County have been challenged to embrace routine cancer screening.

Area Assistant Chief James Mogo tipped residents from the area on the importance of embracing routine cancer screening and check-ups to avoid being caught unaware when it is too late.

Speaking on Thursday at Kenyoro Health Centre in his area of administration, Mogo said that despite the threats posed by cancer as a major killer disease, many area residents do not go for screening and medical check-ups to ensure they access treatment early.

"I am informing residents within my jurisdiction that it is important to go for routine check-ups to ensure early detection of various chronic diseases, particularly cancer, which is a serious killer disease. However, if detected early, it can be treated and the negative effects on the patient mitigated,” said Mogo.

Mogo however warned area resident against self-medicating by buying medication across the counter.

He instead advised them to go to health facilities for specialised medical examinations and prescriptions, to ensure they get drug prescriptions for specific ailments.

"I am warning residents from this area against gambling with their health through self-medicating without prior professional medical examinations to ascertain the nature of their ailments and the drugs to use," said Mogo.
