Gilgil leaders have called on the police in the area to wipe out a gang that has converted part of a bushy area between the town and Naivasha into their hideout.

According to the leaders, the area had become a crime hot spot with a majority of gangs operating between the two towns using it as a convenient place for planning, materialising and sharing out the stolen goods.

Led by area MP Nderitu Mathenge, the leaders now want the police to form a special team that will specifically prioritise dealing with the notorious hideout.

“The land stretching to Kasambara has become bushy and criminals have converted it into a hideout to facilitate their criminal activities,” he said.

The MP said the land which is owned by two white families should be converted into meaningful use before the area becomes a hot bed of crime.

“As much as we are in advanced talks with the Delamere and Marula families to ensure part of the unused land is sold to the county government to be used for other projects, we call on the responsible persons to either clear the bushes or plant something to help solve the crime problem,” he added.

The leaders were addressing members of the press in Gilgil town on Wednesday where they also urged youth to engage in more income generating activities and desist from crime.
