Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Kisumu branch has vowed to support their colleagues countrywide to force the TSC to implement the Industrial Court Verdict.

This came out during the Annual General Meeting of Knut Kisumu County branch held in CITAM church Kisumu town presided over by the deputy general secretary of the teachers union Mr Charles Ochieng’ Katege.

Mr Katege said the union is ready to call for a mother of strike immediately the TSC will just give them a notice of appeal.

“If TSC will give us the notice of appeal, we shall all be on streets because teachers will not get what they want without fighting,” warned Deputy Secretary General Mr Katege.

He said that the Industrial court has given them only 50 to 60 per cent that is still very low according to their 300 percent demand, adding that the government through the TSC is reluctant to give them there small portions as directed by the court.

Mr Katege revealed that in a week's time the NEC is going to deliberate on the other actions that the teachers will take in accordance with the intended appeal by their employer TSC.

However, Mr Katege warned county governments over the recruitment of Early Childhood Development tutors that they are in contempt of court.

He revealed that county governments have no proper scheme of work to use in the recruitment of those tutors.

“I know only one employer of teachers which is the Teachers Service Commission and not any other body and if the county government is doing that then they are in the contempt of court and they should be sued for that,” said Mr Katege.

Katege said whoever wanted to employ any teacher apart from the TSC is planning to divide the unity of the Kenya teachers. This comes after the Kisumu County government recruited 700 ECDE assistants and deployed them to there working stations this is according to the Chief Officer of Education in the county government of Kisumu Dr. Samwel Okuro.

“We only recruited ECDE assistant not teachers, so whoever is saying that we employed ECDE teachers is lying,” said officer Dr. Okuro.

Dr. Okuro said to Education News that they will employ ECDE teachers if the court will declare that they are given that mandate to employ them, he was talking though a phone call.
