Nyamira County government and academicians have been urged to set up a university in the region to boost education standards.
Speaking on Monday at Gesima ward, a section of Nyamira residents led by Mr Peter Minyira, Enjoro Polytechnic chairman, said it is important for the county to have a university to raise the standards of education in the county.
“We are urging our county government and academicians to put up measures so that we can have a university in this county,” said Minyira.
He also said that having a university is a way of motivating students in the county to take their studies seriously and join higher learning institutions.
“This can help our students to work hard by aiming to join the university for further studies,” added Minyira.
Simeon Nyanchoka, a parent, said establishment of a university in the area will reduce transport cost incurred by parents while sending their children to distant colleges and universities.
“If we will have a university in our county our children can pursue higher education at low costs compared to when they have to travel to other counties,” said Nyanchoka.
