Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua has announced the suspension of two ministers from his government.
The governor said the suspensions were informed by corruption, laxity and uncooperativeness.
Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, Mutua said the decision had been triggered by the need to serve the people of Machakos diligently.
“I have taken this step as Machakos County will not tolerate laxity and corruption while the people who elected us await our services. These are the kind of people who await tendering processes to steal funds meant for improving our county’s facilities,” said Mutua.
The two, Francis Maliti (Water and Irrigation) and Larry Wambua (Public Service), were sent on a compulsory three months suspension.
The Machakos Water Services CEO Michael Mangeli and his counterpart from Mavoko Water Services Raphael Mutie were also suspended for two months.
According to the governor, the water sector in the county had been put on the limelight due its deterioration.
“We introduced Maendeleo Chap Chap to ensure the living standards of our people are boosted and anyone who is drugging us behind must step down. We have partnered with the Ethics and Anti Corruption body in ensuring a corruption free county,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Decentralisation, Kioko Luka has been appointed as the acting Minister of Water while Hellen Kiilu of Education was appointed the acting Minister of Public Service.
