Nakuru Upgrade Poetry will on Sunday stage an event aimed at educating residents on the use of social media.

The event dubbed Social Media will take place at the ACK Cathedral and will be graced by poets, singers, spokenword artistes and bands that will meet and share the experience on one platform through poetry and music.

In addition, the group will discuss how times have changed and with which the whole world has been reduced to one global village through the Internet.

Communication via social media platforms has made it easier for people in other different parts of the world to meet, interact, share ideas and even getting life time partners.

In his post on the event's Facebook page, the founder of the monthly event Wilson Uba said people's information and social technologies should help in raising awareness and not propaganda, build connections and not passive-aggression.

"Social media is not about the exploitation of technology but service to community," reads part of the post.

Nakuru's digital Chief Francis Kariuki is expected at the event.
