Counties should take up the tasks and put their houses in order as far as health issues are concerned, Deputy President William Ruto has said.

Speaking in Naivasha on Thursday during an ongoing devolution seminar, the DP insisted that health matters are too sensitive that call for close supervision which can only be offered under the county government.

"It is easier to monitor such sensitive issues at the county level as compared to how the situation was under the national government," he said.

He said that three years down the line, devolving the health sector has played a pivotal role in saving the nation from a huge wage bill under the ghost workers menace.

"Counties have helped us wipe our ghost workers which was a huge waste of resources because of using a lot of money on a workforce that is never there," Ruto noted.

The seminar brings together stakeholders from the health sector to discuss on how best counties can take up the mantle and function appropriately.
