As the teachers strike bites, children in Kibera have resorted to helping their parents in house chores such as fetching water, selling in kiosks to keep themselves busy.

Parents on the other hand want the government to reopen schools saying they had paid fees yet their children are idling at home.

Charlene Mutali, a single mother said she is having a hard time with the kids at home.

Linda Kisojo on the other hand said although the children are helping her with chores such as fetching water, it is not what they really should be doing now.

Student, Paul Simba said he wishes to be in school and would like to meet his classmates since staying at home is tasking. 

He is worried about this year's academic calendar and is not sure how they will be graded so as to move to the next class.

"Will we be forced to repeat classes or will will we proceed to the next class?" he asked.

He said he misses his classmates and wants the schools to reopen so that they can be reunited.
