The national government through the administration officers has called upon the humanitarian service providers to be on high alert as anticipated El Nino rains beckon.

Wareng Deputy County Commissioner Chuck Masua said the national government and county governments are partnering to ensure help is available for victims in case emergencies arise.

“We would like to appeal to all the humanitarians organisations like the Red cross, World Vision and others to be on alert to help us respond to emergencies when they are called upon,” he said.

Masua says that although Uasin Gishu County was not at a high risk of experiencing landslides, necessary mapping and risk assessment has been conducted identifying the major worry as widespread flooding.

“Although this county is not prone to landslides, the major challenge will be flooding and we are committed to do our best to prevent casualties” added Masua.

This comes barely a week after the county government launched 10 ambulances where the governor directed that all vehicles be available to offer help at any time of the day and night.

Masua was speaking at seminar held in Reform Church at Langas that brought together stakeholders from agriculture and meteorological department
