Huruma Ward Representative Peter Chomba has encouraged marginalised groups in the area to apply for government funds.
Speaking to journalists in Huruma estate on Tuesday, Chomba asked the minority groups to apply for the funds in large numbers and start businesses.
He said that the Uwezo Funds were set aside for minority groups and that they should take advantage of it.
Chomba said the area will realise development if marginalised groups take the initiative to apply for the funds.
“I am appealing to women, youths and persons living with disabilities to apply for government funds and start businesses of their choice,” he said.
The MCA also encouraged the minority to apply for the 30 per cent tenders reserved for them. He said through tenders the minority groups will be able to do business with the government and in the process boost their livelihoods.
Chomba at the same time asked the county and the national government to create employment opportunities for the youth.
He said that though the government has initiated empowerment programmes, there is need for job creation.
The MCA said that thousands of youths in the ward are unemployed adding that the situation threatens security.
The ward representative said that unemployment has resulted to drug abuse and crime.
“The government must fast-track employment creation so that our youths can get jobs and contribute to development,” he said.
