Youth in Thika West Sub-County have been challenged to start projects that will earn them a living instead of idling and engaging in crime.
Laban Mwangi, the sub-county youth officer and who also chairs the Uwezo Fund coordinating committee in the region called on youths to end the white-collar job mentality and be innovative.
“‘Youths should use their potential to come up with creative projects that would generate income by attracting funding from the national and county governments through the formation of youth groups. He said by forming groups they also stand a better chance of getting state tenders,” said Mwangi.
He observed that youth in the area have not put in much effort towards advancing a course that would uplift their lives.
Instead, he noted, they are used and exploited by politicians to spread negative propaganda against their adversaries.
The youth officer urged the youth to use the available opportunities and resources to create employment and also be in a position to uplift their living standards.
“Our youngsters should come up with ideas that will transform their economic status and not just wait to receive handouts from politicians. There are very many options for the youth such as starting income generating schemes,” he added.
