Women from Itumbe location, Sameta sub-county have been encouraged to go for Uwezo Fund loans to finance their small business ventures.

Area Chief Henry Mirera tipped women from the area on the importance of going for the loans, which he disclosed took a six months grace period before they start repaying, hence giving them enough time to re-organize their businesses.

Speaking at his office during a sensitization training for women drawn from various women groups in the area, Mirera regretted that despite the government channeling a lot of funds to the grassroots to assist women venture into economically viable business activities, majority of the local women snubbed such funds only to run to exploitative loan shylocks which charged them prohibitive interest rates.

"I am encouraging women from my location to form groups and make use of the Uwezo loans to transform their lives and those of their immediate family members through investment in income generating activities,” stated Mirera.

Mirera, however, warned local women against overburdening themselves with loans from various institutions alongside the Uwezo ones, reminding them it will be overwhelming for them to service such overburdening loans and yet they had other responsibilities to shoulder at family levels.

He said it will be prudent for local women to go for the government-run Uwezo Fund loans, to enable others borrow as it was a revolving Fund meant to economically empower women and the youth initiate and finance their business venture.
