Open air pool operators, choma zones and jobless corner joints have been earmarked as crime mastermind venues within Naivasha town.

In a baraza over the weekend, Naivasha OCPD Titus Munywoki expressed concern at the swelling numbers of idle youth saying that police were on the alert to help contain crime levels in the sub-county.

He says that the said areas were meeting places for young idle minds to meet and strategise on how to necessitate evil in the society.

“Idleness is dangerous and as law enforcers, we are concerned with how youth in this area are forming small meeting points which in real sense are crime planning points,” he said.

The police boss further called on parents to devise ways keeping their teenagers preoccupied after school saying that ignorance and irresponsibility on the side of parents was making their work hard.

“We as law enforcers cannot be at everywhere to contain crime, we need to work hand in hand for the benefit of our society because at the end of the day, all of us have a role to play in ensuring an all accommodative habitat,” he explained.

He sent a warning to operators of the open air pool tables saying that they were to take up the initiative of streamlining their business premises before the worst happened.

“Know who is entering your premises, why and with what purpose especially new faces who act suspiciously,” Munywoki advised.

He further called on the disbandment of all jobless corners saying that a majority of people who visit such places have questionable characters.

Villager elders and the common mwananchi who attended the baraza asked police to intensify night patrols to help cub criminal activities in all the villages.

“Don’t just concentrate in the town centre and the outskirts because we are also part of your area of jurisdiction and need protection. We are ready to work with you because a safe society is all we are working towards,” Maina Wa Kieni, a village elder said.

Barazas are gatherings called by the local administration in an effort to ensure public participation is incorporated in dealing with different vices in society.
