Itibo Ward representative Samwel Nyanchama has called upon journalists who report matters from Nyamira County to ensure they have balanced news and avoid on negative publicity.
Speaking on Monday when he visited an ongoing water project at Mariba area in his ward, Nyanchama said in the last few days, some section of the media reported that the project has stalled and yet it was a weekend when the project construction was not going on.
Nyanchama complained of how positive development by the Nyamira County is not reported, noting only mistakes and outdated cultural practices are the main media focus.
He said that journalists are allowed to cover all events in the county, but they should cover events independently and fairly without politicising situations.
He also called on area journalists to know that they have a role of building the county by wooing investors and not brewing stories that will scare them.
Nyanchama lauded the contractor awarded to work on the Mariba water project for the progress made so far, and called upon other contractors to ensure that they have done standard work.
