Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has urged residents in the area to conserve water.

Speaking on Wednesday in Kamenu while issuing plastic water tanks worth more than Sh10 million to various women groups, Kabogo said it has now become an essential practice to conserve water even where it seems plenty.

"You can save on your water utility bills and use that money for something else. Water conservation is an expensive affair to many households and that is why we are giving out these tanks," said Kabogo.

Kabogo also noted that community household water conservation could help the county government save a lot of money in repairs and maintenance of sewerage system in urban areas.

"Whenever it rains heavily, we incur a lot of costs repairing sewerage systems due to overloading of sewer lines with rain water. The sewers also burst exposing us to diseases," said Kabogo.

The governor promised to continue issuing tanks to various households in the county to boost water conservation.

The governor was accompanied by MCA Mary Hussein and Water CeC Esther Wanjiru.
