A section of Nyamira MCAs has defended the county government over persistent corruption allegations labeled against top county government officials.

Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka had blamed the county government recently at a funeral in North Mugirango of tolerating corruption and accused MCAs of "not doing enough" to put the county government in check.

However, Onyonka’s remarks have ignited a debate with a section of MCAs led by majority leader, Laban Masira warning the legislator against interfering with affairs of Nyamira County.

Masira and a section of his colleagues were inspecting dispensaries that have been successfully completed by the county government of Nyamira in Kitutu Masaba constituency at Gachuba and Manga wards.

“We are not children to be lectured by outsiders (in reference to Mr. Onyonka). He should mind issues affecting his county after all the issues of corruption in our county have been tackled and they were just mere allegations. You all saw that in the alleged fraud of the Sh7 million gate. No one has stolen from the people of Nyamira,” he said.

The majority whip, Peter Maroro challenged Onyonka to give details of the corruption allegations that have in the past rocked the National Assembly.

“Onyonka should tell us about the PAC issue. Bribing of members to support or oppose motions something we rarely see in our county assemblies. To that end, he should mind issues affecting his Kisii county and leave Nyamira alone,” he said.

Also in attendance was Gesima MCA Ken Atuti and Nyansiongo’s Jackson Mogusu. Onyonka is a second time ODM Member of Parliament from Kisii County.
