Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has asked politicians in the county to stop using the ongoing crackdown on illicit brews as a political campaign tool for their own selfish gains.

Speaking to journalists at the county office in Nakuru on Thursday, Mbugua said some politicians have turned the illicit brew war to a campaign tool thus undermining other leaders and the county government.

Mbugua said it was wrong for some politicians to use the ongoing alcohol crackdown activities to incite or spread false propaganda.

“It is unfortunate that some politicians are keen to undermine the government and its activities in the name of fighting illicit brews,” he said.

Mbugua said some politicians leading the crackdown have ignored the law a move he said threatens the peace of residents.

“It is important for us to observe the law even as we fight illicit brewers and illegal alcohol sellers,” he said.

The governor further dismissed claims by some leaders that the Nakuru government was non-committal in fighting brews.

Mbugua said he has been on the front line in condemning the brews adding that such cheap politics by selfish leaders will not help the people.

Mbugua asked the police and other officials leading the fight against brews to protect the environment and make sure that alcohol bottles are dumped in the right place.
