There is need for Kenyans to be given civic education about the constitution and how it works.

Kisii County Commissioner Chege Mwangi says many Kenyans misinterpret the constitution and engage in unlawful acts.

The Commissioner has challenged all stakeholders in the national and county governments to organise forums to sensitise people about the constitution and its provisions.

“People have not understood the constitution, we need to organise forums to sensitise them so that they know the provisions enshrined in the constitution,” said Mr Mwangi.

He cautioned members of the public against demonstrating without informing security agents in advance.

He said police are supposed to be informed about any planned demonstration three days earlier for permission to be granted, if the demonstration will be peaceful.

“It is quite unfortunate that most people organise demonstrations without informing the police and that is unconstitutional, they should report to the police three days before the demonstrations," added Mwangi.
