Kiambu County Government will use over Sh100 million to set up polytechnics in the region.
County Education Executive Esther Ndirangu said that the county assembly has approved the allocation adding that they have already identified the areas to set up the institutions.
Speaking on Wednesday in Ngoingwa when she led education stakeholders in the county in identifying land to set up the polytechnic, the CeC said the programme seeks to train youth in skills that will make them self-reliant.
She added that most youths who are unable to further their education in the county had turned to drugs and alcohol due to idleness.
“Through this programme, students in these polytechnics can further their education and get skills to start their own businesses,” she said.
Ndirangu revealed that the county assembly has also approved Sh50 million for the school feeding programme. Besides, female students will be issued with sanitary pads courtesy of the county government of Kiambu.
“We have plans to also refurbish social halls and extend the feeding programme to more schools,” Ndirangu added.
