Kiambu county CeC for Health, Jonah Mwangi has said that the county government is not to blame for the doctors go slows.
Mwangi said that the county government is still waiting for the National Treasury to release funds for the current financial year so that the doctors and a section of nurses can be paid.
“We are doing all we can but we cannot promise anything as at now because everyone is waiting for the funds. When they strike and I cry to my bosses they also say that they are waiting so we have to wait for the Treasury to sort the issue sooner,” Mwangi said.
He added, “We value the inputs by the health practitioners and we cannot sit and watch as they struggle in their most sensitive field considering the public are in need of their services mostly at this moment when they are not working.”
The doctors went on a go slow earlier last week and forced the public in Kiambu and Thika hospitals to seek medical services from other private clinics at a higher cost.
The doctors are still on a go slow and according to Thika level five hospital medical superintendent, Andrew Toro, students on internships and the nurses on duty are the only ones attending to patients.
