Youths in Kiambu County have been urged to form groups and Saccos in order to secure government tenders.

Speaking in his office on Thursday, Kiambu Sub-County procurement officer, Mr John Opondo, said he had noted that youth in the area were not applying for tenders which were provided by the government in order to bring about development in the society.

He urged the youth to take advantage of the opportunity they were being given by the government which enabled them to scoop 30% of the tenders, saying once they had secured their share from the government, they can be able to invest in various businesses or enterprises.

“Government tenders are a great way to get your company name out there in what can be an often crowded marketplace. By pitching for and winning a government tender, you could see your business go from a local production to a nationally recognised name after just one job. This is certainly an effective way to transform your business,” said Opondo.

Opondo said government tenders are a great way for youths to explore their potential because unemployment among youth is clearly visible in the urban and rural areas.

The officer added that the youth enterprise fund is a part of development funds that are provided to facilitate business financing among the youth without necessarily having to provide collateral security.
