Youths in Kiambu have been challenged to embrace the entrepreneurial spirit to create employment instead of seeking for white collar jobs.
Kiambu sub county youth officer Ms Charity Githinji noted that due to the rising number of graduates from various institutions, securing formal employment has become challenging since there are limited job opportunities.
She urged youths to be more innovative and engage in entrepreneurship to earn a living.
“To survive in the current competitive world, youths should be open minded and utilise every opportunity that comes their way mainly by embracing culture of entrepreneurship,” she said.
The officer, who was speaking in his office in Kiambu, said unemployment rate in the country will remain high since thousands of graduates enter the labour market every year looking for white collar jobs.
She urged youths to diversify their job seeking strategies by initiating entrepreneurial activities. She encouraged youths to be risk takers and venture into income generating activities, adding that without taking risk there cannot be worthwhile rewards.
“Good entrepreneurs do take challenges boldly by becoming great innovators to create their own jobs. Every opportunity should not be spared at all,” she said.
Githinji also urged youths to value and embrace new technologies as they venture into entrepreneurial activities so as to reap maximum returns.
She advised youths to take advantage of the government support funds such as Youth Enterprise Development Fund or Uwezo Fund among others so as to start small and medium businesses.
