A 26-year-old man met his fate while receiving medical attention at Thika Level Five Hospital after he was attacked and injured by a gang of unknown assailants.
Confirming the Wednesday incident, Thika West OCPD, Erastus Muthamia said the victim identified as Martin Karangi from Kiandutu slums village was found writhing in pain in his house at around 11.30pm on Wednesday.
Muthamia issued a stern warning to a section of the public who he blamed for having developed a habit of taking the law into their hands whenever such incidents occur in the area.
“Residents should always forward suspected criminal cases to police officers for legal action to be taken rather than lynch suspects as some end up being innocent,” said Muthamia.
The officer was referring to an incident that occurred a few weeks ago where a man was injured by members of the public who had accused him of theft at Kiangombe trading centre. The man was later cleared of any criminal activities.
Police in Thika have now intensified investigations and are searching for the culprits who attacked the man.
The deceased body was taken to General Kago Morgue in Thika Town.
